Your gutters are meant to direct water runoff safely away from your property and keep your roof intact. Regular cleaning and maintenance are needed to keep them working properly or else clogs can occur which can lead to water damage. But if you find it tedious having to go up and clean your gutters at times, there are other methods to keep it clean while staying safely on the ground.
If the debris on your gutters is mostly twigs, dry leaves and pin needles, then a vacuum with a gutter cleaning attachment is a good tool to use. You won’t need a ladder when you use this as it can work by having the curved attachment over the edge of a gutter and sucking the debris into a vacuum chamber or bag. But if you want a more effective clean, consider using a wet/dry vacuum cleaner to remove unwanted debris!
A power washer with a telescoping wand and U-shaped attachment can also be used to clean your gutters, and you won’t even need a ladder! To use it properly, just position yourself right under your residential roofing gutters and hold the attachment above it. Using it may get you wet, so make sure to wear a rain jacket and goggles to keep dry. Do this thoroughly as you work your way from one end of the gutter to the other, stopping every few minutes to let the water drain properly.
With a gutter cleaning attachment, a leaf blower can blow the debris out of your gutters. However, this can get a bit messy since you may be blowing some of the debris back to your roof. Make sure to aim your leaf blower properly so that most of the debris will be blown out from the gutter and onto the ground below it. Doing this will make it easier to rake the leaves and twigs afterward.
